 November Update: 
Sitting here in the brewery on a mild November evening listening to the sounds of a fermenter bubbling in the background I am reminded why I love homebrewing. Homebrewing for me is a combination of many loves of my life. Homebrewing is a science first and foremost where we decide how to control as many elements as we can to best determine an outcome that fits our needs. Homebrewing is a craft and an art where we get to make decisions about the direction of the recipe and where we as the artist ultimately decide the direction and vision of the brew that will ultimately be in our hands and on our palate. We as homebrewers do not only exercise our craft out of a need but a desire to make things to share with the people in our lives.  Whether that is sharing in our knowledge of the sciences of brewing, the experience of brewing itself, or with the end product so many of our friends and neighbors will eagerly partake in. We brew because it gives back to us in many different ways. I know I am eagerly awaiting the Thanksgiving celebration at my house this year because of the 2 kegged beers and 3 bottled beers I will have to offer guests (on top of a smoked turkey and a Spanish Jamon); Celebrating with others with food and amazing beer pairings can easily be the way a pedestrian like me can feel like king, especially if the beer and food comes from your own hands. To this good food, good beer and great life I celebrate.

Club Membership Update (Please Read):
As has been mentioned in the last 3 months of meetings OTMP we have been looking into club insurance. With all the changes the club has seen over the last 3 years we now face different problems than we had before. We now have meetings now hosted at members' houses that have resulted in high quality meetings. With this change we increased the liability on individuals with this freedom. Thanks to Chuck we are now insured as a club through the AHA. However there is still a cost to the club to provide the service.
As a result of gaining insurance the club is now moving to charge annual dues. If you have interest in discussing dues and this change to club membership we invite you to come 30 minutes early to this month's meeting at Jim's house to take part in this discussion.

Barrel Project:
There has been some traction on getting a barrel project going. It has been some time since we have done this. Dave has sourced some barrels that we can attain. If we can identify a barrel type and a beer style and recipe we could easily get a project going. More discussions on this topic at the next meeting.

October Meeting Recap:

Twas a brisk evening in West Arvada, the night had a chill to it and the boys needed some refreshments. It was the perfect storm of smoked queso and homebrew. We had the chance to join one of the newest members of the club at his house on the back patio. Dennis not only showed us what a hell of a host he is but also gave us the rounds with his other side projects in aged vodkas as well as his super cool wedding taps system. Amazing job Dennis! Thanks for stepping up when the club needed it.

 October Update: 
With GABF as a well written memory and this summer sun that has faded away; what does your homebrew have in store for cooler weather?  Planning a special brew for Thanksgiving? Or getting into the season and planning out all of your holiday kegs? I know that I am already planning out my next few lagers and looking forward to finding a beer to serve over the holidays to the family. I am excited that with the cooler weather I am freed up a bit more to hopefully do some brewing projects with some friends and club members. 

I am considering making another shirt/hat embroidery order if there is enough interest. We can pick up our own apparel and just drop off for processing. Let me know at the next meeting if you have interest.

OTMP – August Meeting 8/17/22 – July Meeting Recap

Join us this month for the first and likely only competition for the club in 2022. Pale Ales in August is going to be an epic meeting so I hope you brewed for it! We will be looking for the finest in English, American, and Yugoslavian Pale Ales! Who will walk away with a Burger King Crown and also be known as the OTMP King of the Pale Ales? In a few short days we will know.

So not only is Chuck the only member of the club that has been rejected by other homebrew clubs; either by the quality of his homebrew or his salty personality, he is also (likely) the only club member to own a wood fired pizza oven. This month we will be doing a pizza party PRIOR to the meeting. So, if you plan on kicking back on all of the Pale Ale competition beers and need a full stomach to do this, we have a treat for you. Show up early to chow down on some amazing pie. NOTE: Please only bring competition beer to the meeting for tasting at the meeting, other beers will be consumed either prior to the meeting or after the meeting has crowned the king of the competition. Tasting glasses will be provided for the meeting so that we can conduct tastings blind and also with some sort of efficiency, although you should likely still bring a glass for other pours. Please bring 2×22 oz bombers (or equivalent) of your competition beer so that we have sufficent beer to pour for the competition. The club will also be looking for members to help provide additional items for the event, please check the DISCORD #meeting-plans channel for more information and needs.

The club will now have a collection kitty to help offset a few things. 
1.) We are exploring getting club insurance through the AHA, this does cost money (~$5 a member a year) 
2.) We have never charged a dime and now that we have people hosting in place of SPE/Odyssey/New Image/ABC there are costs incurred by hosts, we used to support these breweries, we could now support our own club in place of this (these specifics can be discussed at a meeting) 
3.)  We could look into more club ventures such as tools for shared use 
4.) As a club we promote homebrewing and homebrewing adventures, if members fail to bring beers to a meeting they will have to contribute to the kitty as a small penance (new members, firsts hit is free, after that we expect participation to remain a part of the club)  
5.) We could also just take donations at any time from any club member and potentially split the kitty across members that host annually (just a thought).
 6.) If Colter misses a meeting he for sure owes money, same goes for Aaron, only because he is in proximity. 

I have a vessel to complete this in. I am just looking for a higher level of commitment. If anyone wants to reach out to myself on how this goes and/or be a treasurer I am open to a new role in the club. Additionally, as a club in its 10th year of operation we might consider becoming more legitimate, as much as I hate to say it, this just might be a necessary move at this point. We do drink at peoples houses and if we had insurance this could mitigate some issues. It also makes sense to start amassing some funds for the club as we could do a big event once in a while that the club totally funds.

Chuck S. -01 – Helles 3% – 5% Brought this before. It is now about 90 days post fermentation. 34/70 yeast. 5 %ABV. Very pale yellow, mild nose on the beer, clean bite of hops on the finish. Clean, balanced, very indicative of the style.
Charles B. -03 – Kolsch 5% – 7% Kölsch 1 + 2
Malt: Weyermann Pils
Hops: Sterling, Saphir
Yeasts: wlp029 -OR- Lallemand Köln
Brewed: 2022-6-14; ABV 5.6%
“SRM of 1 right here” – WLP029 very clean finish and there is a unique tartness in this beer and more floral . Split decision on which the club liked more. The dry yeast was a bit drier and less defined. Really interesting comparison here. Overall the people liked the WLP029 more as the depth in flavor was there. I perceived a bit more sulphur in the WLP029 than the dry yeast but not in a bad way, it added something that the dry yeast just didn't have.
Charles B. -05 – Pilsner 5% – 7% Pre-Prohibition Lager
malts: Rahr 6-row, Munich, Flaked Maize
hops: Sterling, not-so-fresh (2017) local Arvada Cascade (hop stand)
yeast: 34/70
brewed: 2022-5-31; ABV 5.8%
Slight grainy and sweet taste, Smooth and rounded finish with a nice sharp hop quality. Really interesting spin on the traditional american pils.
Jim S. -05 – Pilsner 3% – 5% All imported ingredients, decoction mashed, krausened and long-term lagering Made with the Urquell D strain. Really defined pils profile, very bold.
Charles B. -08 – Steam Beer 5% – 7% Arvada Common
Malts: 50/50 Pils/Munich
Hops: sterling, Arvada Cascade from 2017 (hop stand)
Yeast: Diamond
Brewed: 2022-6-2; ABV 5.3%
A mix of Cheater Vienna and California Common. This might be the highlight of the Charles competition.
Mick -12 – Irish Red 5% – 7% Partial mash: 6lbs DME, 3lbs grain
Grain: M.Otter, Chrystal 80,Munich 30, Choc rye,Amber. Roasted
Hops: My Chinook, Centennial
Yeast: Imperial Kaiser
Brewed: 5/7/22
Nice copper color, nice sweet rounded profile. “That is a super tasty red”. “I could keep ordering pint after pint of these”
Evan S. -24 – American Pale Ale 5% – 7% 2-Row / Crystal40 / Vienna /Victory – Columbus / Mosaic / Citra / Cashmere – US-05 – 6.5%

All members will vote on all beers and the winner receives a ton of shit talking rights. Tasting sheets will be provided, bring a pen and a thirst for summer beers!

With the growing size of the club, hosting has become more than making sure you have some beers available for the guys to drink. As not everyone in the club has the availability to host at their house we would like to continue to share in the work required for a meeting to happen. We are looking for a member or two to team up with the host to bring beer snacks and maybe swing by early to set up or stay later and help clean up. We will be looking for this for the next few months to get a feel on how successful this could be. If we are using the discord we can reach out to offer assistance, additionally I can get people in touch with each other to start the conversation.

Ingredients/process includes Munich, Vienna and Pils malts, Spalter and Mittelfruh hops, decoction mash with 45m simmer and the White Labs 029 Kolsch/German Ale yeast. —-Submitted by Evan because Jim thinks you need to write it on the spreadsheet. Orange and light brown in color with a golden shimmer. Crisp and light (charles) pronounced malt, clean finish
Chris L. -06 – Amber Lager 5% – 7% https://share.brewfather.app/xvkPaRdV02TvPV Vienna Lager – dark toasty golden color. Caramel tastes malty and balanced.
Evan S. -16 – American Brown-Porter (non-imperial) 3% – 5% Kentucky Common – 4.64% ABV – 2-Row, Flaked Corn, Rye and Carafa III. Cluster and Fuggles Hops.
This is the first drinkable beer to come off of the new system, suck it fuckers that said it wouldn't happen!

This shit is rare. So rare that SPE is the only brewery that has a commercial example to compare to. 
Colter W. -17 – Scottish Beer 5% – 7% A little Wee Heavy. Seemed like a nice beer to make for the summer. Seems spicy and a phenolic taste, slightly pumpkin. Boozy finish, very cloudy look to it.
Charles B. -19 – American Stout (non-imperial) 5% – 7% Black and Blue Stout
pils, black barley, c120, molasses, blue+blackberry puree
Lallemand Verdant yeast
Rich, dark, light body, chocolate coffee. Cearly an American style. Balanced
Ryan P. -20 – Saison/Wit 5% – 7% Saison brewed with Nathan Rooen. 80% belgian pils, 8% munich, 8% wheat, 4% carapils, step mashed, 30 IBUs Goldings hops 60-30-0. Blend of Belgian and French saison yeast (Omega's). Bottle conditioned to 3.5 volumes. Brewed early March 2022. Bottled early April 2022. This beer is almost a Scott Jackson beer. Apparently he was going to make a showing this month, maybe next time. This beer was super bubbly and a nice ester profile that buzzed the smell of the beer. A lingering high note of bitterness
Dennis H. -24 – American Pale Ale 5% – 7% American Black IPA, dry hopped / 6.7% ABV / 79 IBU (pre-dryhop) / Brewed 4-7-22 / Built h2o Nice mellow roast with the sharp hoppy profile.
Dennis -26 – American IPA Hazy 5% – 7% https://www.borboshahomebrew.com/2022/06/10/recipe-off-the-topper-hazy-ipa/ No show
Aaron B. -26 – American IPA Hazy 5% – 7% Malt that I had on hand. Galaxy and Citra, with Citra Lupomax. S-33 yeast Super bright yellow in color. nice and hazy, bright in color and simple and balanced. Really nice summer brew.
Jeff A. -26 – American IPA Hazy 5% – 7% 2nd gen yeast:S05; hops: Nelson, Citra, SuperAlpha; malts: maris otter, pale wheat, caramel 10, carapils, acidulated. 7.7% ABV, OG:1.064, FG:1.006 Lotts of nice tropical, fruity, and melon rhine. Super dry finish. Not super hazy. Nice pale color.
Chuck S. -27 – American IPA West Coast 5% – 7% Red IPA. Basic West coast IPA with an amber color. IBU – 66. Used late addition roasted barley and Crystal 60 for color. SRM calculated at 13. Very pale in color, nice balance and well made, clean and fruity on the end. Bitterness is spot on.
Chris L. -32 – Imperial Stout 10+% https://share.brewfather.app/GJWwXjNXtZOWRr This is a beer to drink around a fire. This beer also has warming effects.
Nathan -39 – Mead or Cider 10+% Co Brewer – Ryan Pachmayer. Melomel – Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Raspberries. 16% ABV. Back sweetened with honey. Very berry and sweet, big in body.

Charles B. -01 – Light Pale Beer 5% – 7% Taco Beer / Not a Mexican Lager
80% pils, 20% flaked corn
Sterling hops
Lallemand Diamond Lager
Supre pale, nice thin creamy layer of head. Nice sweet taste from the corn. Super light in taste.
Chuck S. -02 – Helles 5% – 7% Hallertau and Saaz Hops. Pretty traditional recipe. Used 34/70 yeast. Did a single decoction. Has been Lagering for 6 weeks. Super lights and just enough hoppy. Clean and where it needs to be. Once this is a bit more bubbly this will be a summer favorite. Spauld really liked this. Once clear it will be a killer helles!
Jim S. -06 – Pilsner 3% – 5% Czech Premium Amber Lager (Polotmavy): A medium amber color with firm hoppiness and toasty character. INGREDIENTS- Moravian Zahlinice’ pils malt, Cara Bohemian, Carafa Special II, Saaz & Kazbek hops, Budejovice’ (Budvar) yeast. PROCESS – Step/Decoction mashed and krausened prior to lagering. This honey colored beer. I can taste the one decoction. Crisp hop flavor balanced out with a nice malty backbone
Chris L. -09 – Amber Ale 5% – 7% https://share.brewfather.app/KzVJngeBSxVt8X Very bread crust flavor. Really nice and balanced. Nice toasted brown color. Spauld thought this had all of the attributes of a great American Amber Ale. To me the style should always be perfectly balanced between hop bitterness/aroma, maltiness and with a touch of roasted character. Spot on!
Charles B. -09 – Amber Ale 3% – 5% Irish Dark Red (Nitro/Cask)
Maris, c60, black barley
nugget, goldings
Verdant/LIII
brewed 2022-4-13; 4.3%
Fancy nitro beer made on the ready. Charles attempts his best Bill Nye with wowing us with injecting this beer with more beer to make it super formie.
Jim S. -12 – English Pale Beer – bitter (except IPA) 5% – 7% EAST INDIA ALE: English-style India Pale Ale (less bitter and lower ABV than domestic versions) – Maris Otter floor-malted, English light and medium cara malts, UK Challenger, UK Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. Wyeast 1968 yeast (Fuller’s). Bottle-conditioned. flowery and citrusy, refreshing Bright yellow color – slightly sweet malty backbone followed up with a clean hop profile. Spauld thinks this one might be a bit old (like the Faustien below), but for some reason this one is still ‘fairly’ drinkable. I’ll be making a fresh version for the August pale ale event. Should be much tastier.
Jeff S -15 – Moderate ABV 5% – 7% Jeff S
Chocolate Coffee Stout – 6.4%
Pale Malt, Carapils, Chocolate, Flaked Barley, Crystal Malt, Roasted Barley, Coffee
Nice nose of coffee, otffee, and chocolate; creamy head and a smooth drinkable body. smooth, light coffee, light fruit.
Bobby C -15 – Moderate ABV 8% – 10% Dry Stout. Roasted black barley, 2-row, black patent, special B, and aromatic malt. Styrian and kent goldings hops used for bittering and at flame out. Yeast Safale US-05. Bobby C milk chocolate, cherry, light warming flavor Low body and dinkable. It is a great base beer.
Dennis -16 – Belgian Beer 5% – 7% https://www.northernbrewer.com/products/belgian-tripel-all-grain-kit?variant=7731860045868 Nice and bubbly. The flavor is sopt on, could use a bit of pop in the nose of the beer. Really nice at getting back into brewing. Spauld liked this bier. I thought it was a smooth drinking tripel.
Ryan P. -16 – Belgian Beer 5% – 7% Saison brewed with Nathan Rooen. 80% belgian pils, 8% munich, 8% wheat, 4% carapils, step mashed, 30 IBUs Goldings hops 60-30-0. Blend of Belgian and French saison yeast (Omega’s). Bottle conditioned to 3.5 volumes. Brewed early March 2022. Bottled early April 2022. Super fucking bubbly. “That is fucking delicious”, “I could drink a bottle of this on my own”. Super dry finish. Spauld thought this was one of the better Saison’s he’s had this year (imported examples included!)
Aaron B. -16 – Belgian Beer 8% – 10% I traded rhizomes to a dude on Craigslist for this. Not responsible.
Charles B. -17 – Saison 5% – 7% This Might Explode (can conditioned)

Very blone in color, think, sweet and lemony. “This beer is beggging for an infection”. dry, white wine flavor
Cody B. -22 – Maibock / Single Bock / Doppelbock 5% – 7% https://share.brewfather.app/d63XLjV4ehouXd Nice and sweeet, very malty, beautiful copper color and perfect carbonation. “I just have to say, this is pretty fucking good.” This is the second time Spauld has had Cody’s maibock. While it usually seems too hoppy for the style, I usually think maibocks can be a little flabby at times, so I love Cody’s version. Very clean, with no defects, a solid malt profile and balanced enough to make it go down easy.
Dennis H. -23 – Hoppy 5% – 7% American Black IPA, dryhopped / 6.7% ABV / 79 IBU (pre-dryhop) / Brewed 4-7-22 / Built h2o Centennial, Nugget, Mangum, Mt. Hood, Cascade; “I like this”, really aviod . Lighter base malt with the dark roast malts aviods the astringentcy of the dark malts. smooth, light pine, floral, light citrus, delicious
Cody B. -23 – Hoppy 5% – 7% Colorado IPA https://share.brewfather.app/JkCjk4noz5vxPs Not west or east coast – mid coast beer. Really good nose and very drinkable big hop nose, citrus, cantuloupe, light apple, light bitterness
Chuck S. -26 – American IPA Hazy 5% – 7% 7.2 % ABV 1st attempt at Hazy. Used Mosaic and Amarillo hops. Used A38 Imperial Yeast. Rally nice nose and aroma. On target with color and haze. Really great execution on this beer. good work
Jeremy -26 – American IPA Hazy 5% – 7% 2 Row, Munich 10L, Caramel 120L, white wheat, Columbus at 60 and 30, 1.5oz ea Cascade, Centennial, Chinnook at 0, Propogate MIP110 Hazy yeast. Dry hop 1oz ea Idaho 7 and Simcoe Great base hazy beer. Looking for more of these to come. soft mouthfeel, smooth hop flavor
Jim S. -33 – High Strength Belgian 8% – 10% Faustien Golden Strong Ale: Belgian Castle pils malt, Heidelberger pils malt, Belgian rock candi, Stisselspalt, Tettnanger and Saaz hops. 1338 (Duvel) yeast strain. Reyeasted at bottling then warm-roomed at 78F for 3 weeks prior to aging. I can tase the Jim brewery in this beer. Fucking amazing execution. Spauld tasted some “age” in this bier that tells me it’s a bit over the hill. Only a couple bottles left tho! haha.
Nathan -33 – High Strength Belgian 10+% Ryan P. Co Brewer – Barrel Aged Belgian Quad – 11% ABV from 2019
Dennis H. -34 – Old Ales / Barleywines 10+% Brewed 3-17-18 / 15%+ ABV / 60 IBU / Thomas Hardy Yeast 16%+ 4 year old. Apple in the nose, just what an old ale should be. Really big and in your face.
Aaron B. -36 – Imperial Beers 8% – 10% Brewed last December. You’ve had this before. Old Stout, 8.5%; Dry finish, roasty, and coffee and chcoclate notes with some burbon flavors.
Chris L. -39 – Mead or Cider 5% – 7% Apple-Pear Cider
Eric Under The Stairs Beer – May 18th – 2014 Brewed with belgian rock candy, crazy sweet nose. “Smells like a belgian candy shop”, fairley close to a barley wine.

Sorting shifts are 8:30-12:30 and 1pm – 5pm – May 31 – June 10

This weeks marks the final week for all NHC entries to arrive for the competition, and we’ve started our sorting ops for the competition.

 

Sorting shifts are 8:30-12:30 and 1pm – 5pm – May 31 – June 10

Please stop by for as much (or as little) as you can. Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to come help out!

 

We’ll be sorting from now through next week, and the sooner you can help, the better. (While signing up for any shift is appreciated, if you sign up for the very last day of sorting, it really doesn’t help as much as having the assistance earlier on in the process)

OTMP – Beer Submission May Meeting

 
Beer Submission May Meeting:
We are trying something new for this month to see how this works for us to help organize tastings and notes. If all goes well this saves me time typing out my drunken written notes as well as trying to wrangle beer order when unexpected beer characteristics show up unannounced. I appreciate everyone giving this a chance to help keep our meetings more organized with better flow from beer to beer. 

From now till Wednesday at 6:00 pm you can submit the beers you are bringing to the meeting (Homebrews only, no commercial beers submitted this way). Click through to the form and find your name, style/category, ABV and any notes you would like to add. You can request for an email response, this will give you a link to go back and edit your submission if needed.

Once submitted, the entries go through to a backend spreadsheet. Here in columns E and F you can add additional notes as well as tasting notes for other beer you may have enjoyed.

If beers are not added before 5:00 pm on Wednesday they will likely be added to the end of the session. If brewers are not on time to the meeting for their tasting slot beers may be added to the end of the meeting. 

If you notice that your name is not on the form I will gladly add it, just reply to this email/post. I will try to get you added before you need to submit beers. 

If adding notes to other brewers beers please make sure you are writing in the correct fields, this may be more difficult on mobile.

Our first club competition in years is now back. Brew up a batch of your finest American/English Pale ale for competition and judging this August. All members will vote on all beers and the winner receives a ton of shit talking rights. Tasting sheets will be provided, bring a pen and a thirst for summer beers!

With the growing size of the club, hosting has become more than making sure you have some beers available for the guys to drink. As not everyone in the club has the availability to host at their house we would like to continue to share in the work required for a meeting to happen. We are looking for a member or two to team up with the host to bring beer snacks and maybe swing by early to set up or stay later and help clean up. We will be looking for this for the next few months to get a feel on how successful this could be. If we are using the discord we can reach out to offer assistance, additionally I can get people in touch with each other to start the conversation.

April Meeting Recap:

I am certain that many would agree when I say that, “Jeff and Sara put on one hell of a homebrew meeting.”. The garage brewery was the perfect setting for a warm April evening of beer drinking.  This was also the second month in a row where we had the opportunity to welcome some new brewers to the club and drink a few samples with them while getting to know them. With the spread of food that the hosts prepared as well as the bonus beers that they supplied for “after the meeting” were all out of this world; on top of an amazing turn out with members this will be a meeting to remember for some time. Thanks again to Jeff and Sara for your hospitality, you not only make a great brew team but also some amazing hosts.

Meeting Recap / Beers:
  • Aaron – Italian Pils – 34/70 – This slut puppy of a light beer boasted all the things Aaron loves in his women and his beers; light in gravity, not exotic, as well as offering great head retention. 
  • Charles – Czech Pils – Munich really shines in this beer at the end. At 5.3% this beer is clean and drinkable. 
  • Jeremy K. – Bohemian Pils – The spice of the Saaz hops really shines in this beer. 
  • Ryan – “Fun Fact” – At this point in the meeting Ryan dropped this nugget of information on us “Hallertau hops are 2x as hoppy as Saaz” 
  • Chuck – Not Quite Ready Helles – This young beer was pressure fermented and is still carbonating up. I would like to try this beer in a few weeks. 
  • Dave – Colorado Kolsch – Very clean 
  • Charles – Maibock – The real question here was what is the difference between a Maibock and a Maybach? One might be hoppy and the other might be rented. 
  • Jim – Export Kupfersschmiddt – Barke Pils and Barke Vienna fermented on 2206 Bravarian Lager Yeast. This beer conjured up such compliments as “I cannot perceive any Banana flavors, is this right?”,  and “I can taste the krausen”. 
  • Ryan – A Franconian Dunkle made with RC. This clean and slightly nutty beer at 5.4% really brought a flavor. 
  • Jim – Oktoberfest  – This beer was really bubbly and delicious. 
  • Charles – Ukrainian Smash Beer – The lemony flavors of this brew made you taste the invasion. The beer was so damn clean we could see Kiev through the beer. 
  • Sam – 1/2 a belgian – Not sure this beer was named this because of a European side show midget or the fact that it was 3.3% abv. Or the reality is that it was just ingredients Sam had sitting around and needed to get rid of. 
  • Jim – Triple – “Not 1/3 of a triple” this beer was in fact full strength. 
  • Evan – Are you kidding, this guy doesn't bring beer to meetings. We are not even sure he owns brew equipment he knows how to use. At this point between the live discord tastings and my own lack of sobriety the notes sort of go to shit. 
  • Nathan – Brown Ale 
  • Chris – English Porter 
  • Aaron – Dry Stout 
  • Jeremy – Dark Hill Porter 
  • Chris – NZ IPA 
  • Charles – Session IPA 
  • Cody – West Coast IPA 
  • Aaron – “Cold IPA” or Lager or whatever is trendy with the young brewers at the moment
